Pavilion in the Park is the headquarters for the Talk About Trust, a charity whose mission is to keep young people safe around alcohol and drugs, improve life chances and reduce negative risk taking. We support teachers, parents, carers, community leaders and those under 25. (See more at talkabouttrust.org/about). Before raising the funds to build PiP the charity ran its operations from a garden garage in Frampton, so the move in 2021 to a purpose built premises with an office, community/ training room and revenue generating café has been transformative.
We now have a wonderful building, that enables us as a charity to host diversionary activities for young people, to be a community hub, raise much needed funds for our work and gives us a permanent home at last. We are so grateful to the amazing funders that made our dream come true from individuals, crowd funders, Sport England, the Town and Dorset Councils, Low Carbon Dorset and the Duchy of Cornwall.
We were delighted to win best café in Dorchester/ Poundbury in 2023
Pavilion in the Park ( PiP) is very eco-friendly with 16 solar panels, a Tesla battery and air source heating. Please see the lowcarbondorset.org case study here. In addition it has been built using reclaimed roof tiles, paving, pallets and scaffolding boards – even the carpet tiles and desks are ‘preloved’!
We are as single use plastic as possible and only use fully bio degradable take away packaging and as much of our food as is possible is local too, cutting down on food waste and miles.
